America 250: How Did State Constitutions Shape the American Founding?

Triangle Lawyer Chapter

NC Bar Building
217 East Edenton Street
Raleigh, NC 27601
This event is not open to the Press.

This year’s Fourth of July marks 250 years since our nation’s founding. December of this year also marks the 250th anniversary of the North Carolina Constitution. State constitutions were not afterthoughts to the Founding Fathers—they were the proving grounds that shaped and informed the United States Constitution.

North Carolina’s Independence Constitution of 1776 blended both revolutionary theory and practical politics. Studying it teaches you the law and the reasons behind it. As one of the earliest state constitutions, it inspired our national framework and continues to safeguard our fundamental rights and freedoms 250 years later.
