FEC v. McCutcheon came about because an Alabama businessman wished to contribute more money to a national political party and to individual candidates than the Federal Election Commission said he could. In a 5-4 ruling, the Supreme Court struck down those limits, allowing individual donors to contribute an unlimited aggregate amount.
(Donation limits to individual candidates were not at issue in the case.)

Shaun McCutcheon, the successful plaintiff, and Ben Ginsberg, the Jones Day partner and former national counsel for the Bush and Romney presidential campaigns of 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012, will join us at lunch to share their views on the constitutionality of campaign finance regulation. Shaun will tell the story of his case and Ben will tell us what it means for the future of the First Amendment and campaign finance.
