The Supreme Court wrapped up the October 2016 term earlier this Summer, with another set of cases that have significantly affected constitutional issues ranging from patent law to free speech, religious freedom, and other core areas of individual and collective freedom. How has the court decided Constitutional Law cases this term? What impact do we see upon SCOTUS jurisprudence in the absence of Justice Scalia and later addition of Justice Gorsuch? Will the Court continue to rely primarily upon the text of the Constitution, statutes, and other documents in various cases, or has the passing of Scalia influenced the Court to change direction? Join us to consider these and other intriguing questions from the recently-ended SCOTUS term. Our speaker has the experienced perspective of a former Supreme Court clerk (under the late Justice Scalia) and appellate clerk (9th Circuit).

Mr. Ben Flowers focuses on appellate litigation and complex trial level motions. He has represented clients in numerous courts — including federal appellate courts and the Supreme Court of the United States, litigating a wide array of issues, including constitutional questions, jurisdictional disputes, and issues relating to product liability law, patent law, bankruptcy law, and more. Before joining Jones Day, Ben served as a law clerk to Justice Antonin Scalia of the Supreme Court of the United States and to Judge Sandra Ikuta of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
