Speaker:
- Professor David Stras, University of Minnesota
Professor Stras teaches at the University of Minnesota, and is a regular contributor to SCOTUSblog. He will address "The Future of Judicial Appointments," discussing the important role of the presidency in the judicial appointments process, the changing nature of the process since the failed nomination of Robert Bork to the Supreme Court, and the types of individuals that President Obama is likely to nominate during the course of his presidency. In addition, Professor Stras will analyze whether the early Cabinet appointees of President Obama tell us anything about who Obama is likely to select for judicial vacancies that arise over the next four years, including for the Supreme Court. Finally, Professor Stras will consider several possible responses by the Republican Congress to Obama's future judicial nominees.
While this is a rare Tuesday event, we'll meet at our regular place and time: noon at Chappell's Restaurant in North Kansas City. Chappell's has increased our regular lunch price to $14 -- but it's still a great deal, including meal, drink and tip.
