Speaker:

  • Hon. Paul Clement, United States Solicitor General

The Supreme Court's October 2007 Term promises to be interesting, featuring cases
involving: free speech; election law; the dormant Commerce Clause; States' discretion to
ignore a presidential determination to honor a judgment of the International Court of
Justice; and whether an "intake questionnaire" submitted to the EEOC may constitute a
charge of discrimination. Mr. Clement will preview the upcoming Term from the
perspective of the Office of the Solicitor General.

Paul Clement is the 43rd Solicitor General of the United States. He has argued
over 40 cases before the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Clement has practiced law
with Kirkland & Ellis and King & Spalding. He clerked on the U.S. Supreme Court for
Justice Antonin Scalia, and on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit for Judge
Laurence Silberman.
