The confirmation hearings to consider the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to be an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court will begin on July 13, 2009. What do we know about Judge Sotomayor and her judicial philosophy? Will she render impartial justice and abide by the rule of law? What do her remarks on race and gender indicate about her conception of the role of a judge? And will her replacement of Justice Souter change the jurisprudence of the Court? We are pleased to have Case Western Reserve University Professor of Law Jonathan Adler join us to explore these issues. Jonathan Adler is Professor of Law and Director of the Center for Business Law & Regulation at Case Western University where he teaches courses in environmental, regulatory and constitutional law. He received his B.A. from Yale University and his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law. He clerked for Judge David Sentelle on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. His articles have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and the Harvard Environmental Law Review.
