Alan Gura is a partner at Gura & Possessky, PLLC. Mr. Gura represents individuals seeking to enforce the government’s compliance with constitutional requirements. Among his achievements, Alan successfully challenged Washington, DC’s handgun ban before the United States Supreme Court, and returned to the high court two years later to successfully argue that the Second Amendment binds not only the federal government, but state and local government officials as well. Prior to founding his firm, Gura & Possessky, Alan served as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of California, as Counsel to the United States Senate Judiciary Committee and as a litigation associate for the Washington offices of Sidley Austin. Alan began his career clerking for U.S. District Judge Terrence Boyle, in the Eastern District of North Carolina. In 2009, Alan Gura was named one of Washington’s Top 40 Lawyers Under 40 and a Champion of Justice by Legal Times.
