The Cincinnati Chapter of the Federalist Society will debate "Federal vs. State Law Enforcement," with panelists Judge Amul R. Thapar and Professor John S. Baker, Jr.. Congress has enacted many laws extending into what has arguably been the jurisdiction of state criminal law. This program will discuss the nature and implications of the trend, including federalism concerns. Judge Thapar is the most recent appointee to the federal bench in the Sixth Circuit. Prior to his confirmation on December 13, 2007, Judge Thapar served as United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky. Professor Baker, a constitutional law professor at Louisiana State University, has argued before the United States Supreme Court and co-instructs a biannual federalism and separation of powers course with Justice Antonin Scalia.
