Courthouse Steps Decision Webinar: Ramirez v. Collier

On March 24, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court decided Ramirez v. Collier in favor of petitioner John Ramirez. Chief Justice John Roberts explained for the 8-1 majority that Texas's restrictions on religious touch and audible prayer in the execution chamber burden religious free exercise and are not the least restrictive means of serving the compelling interest at issue. Justices Sotomayor and Kavanaugh filed concurring opinions, while Justice Thomas wrote a dissenting opinion.
