Guest: Viet Dinh, former Chief Legal & Policy Officer, FOX Corporation

Moderator: Carrie Ryerson, General Counsel, Shamrock Foods

TOPIC

The United States prides itself on generations of hard-working people attaining not only life's necessities but the independence that comes with economic success. While there are many ingredients in a system that affords this possibility to a large swath of the population, the rule of law appears to be an essential component.

Recent trends, both within and outside of the judiciary, have called into question the degree to which America's long-standing regard for the rule of law remains intact. In response to the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Students for Fair Admissions, universities and corporations have resisted the legal mandate of race-neutral treatment.

Property rights remain vulnerable to regulatory takings. And the regulatory environment shifts unpredictably with each winner-take-all presidential election. To discuss the role that legal institutions play in economic prosperity and the accompanying personal freedom, the Federalist Society welcomes Viet Dinh and Carrie Ryerson.

With a background ranging from the faculty at Georgetown Law to the U.S. Attorney's Office to private practice, as founder of Bancroft PLLC then at Kirkland & Ellis, and most recently as chief legal and policy officer of Fox Corporation, Mr. Dinh has held multiple front-row seats on the interaction of law and American society.

Carrie Ryerson, general counsel of Shamrock Foods, will engage Mr. Dinh in a fireside chat that explores the ways in which free and prosperous people depend on the rule of law.
