Before that, Viet was a partner at two leading law firms, Kirkland & Ellis LLP and Bancroft PLLC, the latter of which he founded. Viet was a professor at Georgetown University Law Center for 20 years, and was appointed U.S. Assistant Attorney General for Legal Policy from 2001 to 2003. He currently serves on the Boards of Wonder, Inc., Strategic Education, Inc., and Kingspan Group Plc; and previously of Twenty-First Century Fox, the News Corporation, Revlon Inc., and LPL Financial Holdings, among other public companies. Viet graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Law School, and clerked for Judge Laurence H. Silberman and Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.

Biography

Carrie Ryerson is the General Counsel for Shamrock Foods Company, a $4 billion dollar 100-year-old privately held company based in Phoenix, Arizona.  Carrie is responsible for all legal, compliance, safety and risk management functions at Shamrock. 

Starting with Shamrock as the in-house employment attorney several years ago, her role evolved into the head of a newly-created legal department with multiple attorneys and others who focus on, among other areas, risk management and compliance.  She has created a sophisticated and mature legal organization that is efficient, effective and responsive.  Every position within Shamrock that she has held was newly-created and were roles that she was the first to occupy.  As a result, she was charged with creating the function, developing the duties, and establishing the internal and external partnerships to ensure each role’s meaningful impact on the enterprise. 

Prior to joining Shamrock, Carrie practiced in the areas of commercial litigation, employment and complex civil appeals at Fennemore Craig, a leading firm in the Southwest.  Carrie has a law degree from William & Mary School of Law where she was on the Bill of Rights Journal and published a note analyzing the constitutionality of an issue related to the census.  She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Arizona.  Carrie lives in Phoenix with her husband, son and daughter.

Biography

Adam Ciongoli is Chief Legal and Policy Officer for Fox Corporation where he leads all legal, compliance and regulatory matters and oversees government and public affairs.

Before joining FOX in 2023, Mr. Ciongoli served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Sustainability, Corporate Responsibility and Governance Officer for Campbell Soup Company. In this role, he led the Legal department, Corporate Secretary function, Government Relations team, and Sustainability, Corporate Responsibility and Governance functions. He was also a member of the Operating Committee.

Additionally, Mr. Ciongoli previously served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Lincoln Financial Group, as Group General Counsel and Secretary for Willis Group Holdings, PLC and as Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Time Warner, Europe.

Before transitioning to the private sector, Mr. Ciongoli served as counselor to John Ashcroft when he was Attorney General of the United States; as chief counsel to the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on the Constitution, Federalism and Property Rights; and as law clerk to United States Supreme Court Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr.

Mr. Ciongoli earned his Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Pennsylvania, and his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the Georgetown University Law Center.

Biography

In a career spanning both private and public practice, Steven A. Engel is a leading litigator and counselor, acting as an advocate in high-profile trial and appellate matters and advising clients on their most sensitive and complex legal issues. Mr. Engel is the Chair of Dechert’s Appellate and Regulatory Litigation Group and has appeared in courts across the country, handling a wide range of civil litigation matters, including administrative law, commercial litigation, constitutional law and securities cases. He regularly counsels clients on challenges to agency regulations and in connection with government, congressional and internal investigations.

Until January 2021, Mr. Engel served as the Assistant Attorney General for the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel. As the head of the office, Mr. Engel served as the chief counsel to the Attorney General and the principal legal adviser to the Executive Branch, providing legal advice to the President and cabinet secretaries on the most critical constitutional and statutory questions, including matters pertaining to national security, administrative law, criminal law, congressional oversight, and executive orders. In December 2020, Mr. Engel was awarded the Department of Justice’s highest honor, the Edmund J. Randolph Award, for outstanding service to the Department.

Before his appointment as Assistant Attorney General in 2017, Mr. Engel had been a partner at Dechert since 2009 and previously served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel. Mr. Engel clerked on the U.S. Supreme Court for Associate Justice Anthony M. Kennedy and on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit for Judge Alex Kozinski.

Mr. Engel is a member of the Advisory Committee on Rules for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and the Administrative Conference of the United States. He has been an Adjunct Professor at the Antonin Scalia School of Law at George Mason University and the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America and was formerly the Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist Distinguished Practitioner in Residence at the C. Boyden Gray Center for the Study of the Administrative State. He has been nationally ranked as a leading lawyer in The Legal 500 USA and Benchmark Litigation. Mr. Engel has frequently commented on legal subjects in numerous publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and USA Today, and has appeared on national news programs as a legal analyst, including on MSNBC, CNN, Fox News Channel and the Fox Business Network. Mr. Engel has testified on several occasions before committees of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate.
