Join the Milwaukee Federalist Society on Tuesday, April 8th for a luncheon about Catholic Charities Bureau v. Wisconsin Labor & Industry Review Commission, a case currently pending before the United States Supreme Court.
On March 30th, the Court will hear oral arguments about this case which emanates from the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s decision finding that Catholic Charities’ entities in northern Wisconsin did not qualify for a religious tax exemption because their activities were not “operated primarily for religious purposes.” In a lengthy dissent, Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Rebecaa Grassl Bradley described the majority’s ruling as forcing courts into the “constitutionally tenuous position of second-guessing the religious significance and character of a nonprofit’s actions.”
