Eric V. Hall joined the firm in July of 2019. Eric’s practice focuses on business litigation, constitutional law, school law, church law, and employment. Eric specializes in complex civil litigation, especially trials and appeals. Eric has extensive experience with both jury and bench trials. He has also briefed and argued dozens of cases to the Colorado Court of Appeals, Colorado Supreme Court, and Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Prior to joining Sparks Willson, Eric was a partner with Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie LLP, where he worked for 18 years. Eric is a native of Colorado Springs. He earned his BA from the College of William and Mary in Virginia, graduating magna cum laude and delivering the valedictory address on behalf of the class of 1991. He earned his MA in 1994 from St. John’s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He earned his JD from Notre Dame Law School, graduating summa cum laude in 2000. He clerked for the Honorable David M. Ebel on the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals for one year immediately after law school.
Eric is a member of the El Paso County Bar Association and has served as its President and a Trustee. He was named “Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year” in 2005. He is member of the Ben S. Wendelken Inn of Court, the Colorado Bar Association, the Faculty of Federal Advocates, and the Federalist Society. He served on the Colorado Supreme Court Nominating Committee from 2012 to 2018. He is also a co-founder of Thomas MacLaren School, an award-winning charter school located in Colorado Springs School District 11 serving students in grades K-12.
Stephen Cranney has a dual PhD in sociology and demography from the University of Pennsylvania and is a freelance data scientist in the Washington, DC, area.
Chief Legal Counsel, Alliance Defending Freedom
Jim Campbell serves as chief legal counsel with Alliance Defending Freedom, where he leads the U.S. Legal Advocacy team. In that role, Campbell oversees all U.S. litigation teams and Allied Legal Affairs.
Prior to joining ADF in March 2023, Campbell was the solicitor general in the office of Nebraska Attorney General Douglas J. Peterson and Michael T. Hilgers. In that role, he represented the state of Nebraska in cases before state and federal courts and oversaw all civil appeals for the state. In February 2023, Campbell argued Biden v. Nebraska before the U.S. Supreme Court, a case in which Nebraska and five other states challenged the Biden administration’s attempt to forgive over $400 billion in federal student loans for over 40 million individuals.
Before joining the Nebraska attorney general’s office in January 2020, Campbell worked as senior counsel with ADF. In that role, he defended his clients’ religious freedom and freedom of speech, with a particular focus on appellate work. Campbell has also authored many articles and legal commentary pieces, including some published by USA Today and The Washington Post.
A native of northeastern Ohio, Campbell earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Akron School of Law, where he graduated summa cum laude in 2006. Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable Alice M. Batchelder of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit. Campbell is admitted to the state bars of Ohio, Arizona, and Nebraska. He is also admitted to multiple federal district and appellate courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court.
