In 656 A.D., just 24 years after Muhammad, Islam’s prophet, died, a civil war broke out in Islam over who should be rightfully the successor to Muhammad and the leader of the Muslim controlled world. There were three sides to the battle.  One group (eventually the victors) were the predecessor of the Sunnis of today.  Another was the predecessor of today’s Shi’a.  A third group, called the Kharijites, made war on any Muslim who did not adhere to their particular version of the religion.  Their victims included civilians, as well as soldiers.  They did not spare women and children.
                                                                              
At this luncheon presentation, Professor David F. Forte of the Cleveland – Marshall College of Law will discuss the origins, aims and tactics of ISIS.
