Join the Phoenix Lawyers for an evening event!

In Learning Resources, Inc. v. Trump, SCOTUS rejected the Trump administration's reliance on the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to justify imposition of tariffs. The ruling was generally 6-3, but even a portion of Chief Justice Roberts' majority opinion garnered only three votes. Seven of the nine justices authored opinions in the case.

This event will grapple with what the court did--and what it didn't do--in the various opinions. And what doctrinal takeaways we can identify. The speakers will also weigh in on which justices may have charted a new path and which ones took positions consistent with past jurisprudence. The panel may also delve into the use and abuse of executive power in the imposition of tariffs.

FEATURING:

Professor Ilan Wurman, Julius E. Davis Professor of Law at the University of Minnesota

Timothy SandefurVice President for Legal Affairs, Goldwater Institute

Moderator Hon. Mike Catlett, Judge, Arizona Court of Appeals
