The Portland, Oregon Lawyer’s Chapter is honored to welcome Professor Barry P. McDonald of Pepperdine University, Caruso School of Law, for a timely and thought-provoking lecture:

“Trump, the Rule of Law, and the Constitution.”  Professor McDonald will explore the constitutional and legal implications surrounding former President Donald Trump, examining how the rule of law has been tested and interpreted in recent years. His insights will draw on decades of scholarship and practical experience at the highest levels of the legal system.

 

Barry P. McDonald is a Professor of Law at Pepperdine University, where he teaches constitutional law, First Amendment law, comparative constitutional law, intellectual property, and contracts. A nationally recognized expert on the U.S. Supreme Court and constitutional interpretation, Professor McDonald is a frequent commentator in major media outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, and NPR.

 

He clerked for Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist during the 1989–90 Supreme Court term and previously for Judge James K. Logan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. His legal career includes work at the U.S. Department of State and the law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, as well as serving as general counsel to two technology firms. Professor McDonald holds a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law, where he graduated cum laude and served as an associate editor of the Northwestern Law Review.
