The Founders' Second Amendment

Athletic Club of Columbus 136 East Broad Street, Columbus

Columbus Lawyers Chapter

Speaker:

  • Stephen P. Halbrook, Research Fellow, The Independent Institute

The Columbus Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society is pleased to welcome Dr. Stephen Halbrook, successful attorney, prolific author and speaker, professor of philosophy and research fellow at The Independent Institute.

After decades of silence on the Second Amendment, the United States Supreme Court will rule on District of Columbia v. Heller during this term. Based on his years of litigating Second Amendment issues and his extensive research on this topic, Dr. Halbrook will explain the Amendment's origin and present his views regarding the intent of the Founders in crafting the Amendment. He will address the questions of whether the Second Amendment protects a private citizen's right to keep and bear arms, whether the right is collective or individual, and whether the power is vested solely in government. Dr. Halbrook will also answer your questions on this topic.

The cost is $15.00 ($10.00 for students). Members and non-members alike are always welcome. RSVP to Will Kamb at willkamb@hotmail.com or 614-507-3057. Pay at the door or in advance by cash or by check (to "The Federalist Society," P.O. Box 1434, Columbus, Ohio 43216-1434). To join the Columbus Lawyers Chapter, include an additional $25.00 payable to The Federalist Society. We look forward to seeing you on May 29th.
