The regulatory state is rendering unrealistic the presumption that a responsible citizen should be presumed to have knowledge of the law.  There are an estimated 4,500 federal criminal statutes-- and innumerable regulations backed by criminal penalties that include incarceration.

Please join the Orange County Federalist Society on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 when Dr. John Baker will discuss the burgeoning problem of the federalization of crime.

Dr. Baker is a Visiting Professor at Georgetown Law School. He is also Professor Emeritus of Law, and previously the Dale E. Bennett Professor of Law, at Louisiana State University Law School.  Recently a Visiting Fellow at Oriel College, the University of Oxford (2012-14), Dr. Baker  teaches courses for the Federalist Society on separation of powers with Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

In addition to law review articles and book chapters, Dr. Baker’s academic publications include:Hall's Criminal Law: Cases and Materials (with Benson, Force and George; 5th ed. Michie, 1993) and An Introduction to the Law of the United States (ed. with Levasseur; University Press of America, 1992).

Professor Baker received his J.D., with honors, from the University of Michigan Law School and his B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Dallas. He also earned a Ph.D. in Political thought from the University of London.

Cost: $30 members ($35 nonmembers/$20 students/$20 judges) for lunch and 1 hour of MCLE credit. (The Federalist Society is a California State Bar approved provider of MCLE).  Please bring your parking tickets for validation.
