Since at least the Harrison Narcotics Act in 1914, the United States government has tried to eliminate the use of "illegal" drugs by U.S. residents, and in describing the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970, the Nixon administration in 1971 coined the term "War on Drugs." But has the War on Drugs become an expensive slogan with no real policy success? Is this "war" fully supported by the American people and can it be won? Or are Americans ready for legalized heroine, cocaine, and marijuana to be be sold in neighborhood stores? When it comes to the War on Drugs, which side are you on? These and other questions will be discussed at the debate.
As with our other Tavern Debates, this is an audience participation event.
