Roe v. Wade was a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, but was hardly the “last word” in the law of abortion in the United States. On Roe’s 43 anniversary, Denise Mackura reflects on the development of Roe, how the abortion right created by Roe has evolved through more than three dozen Supreme Court abortion decisions since. In addition, Ms. Mackura will provide insight into how new medical research into unborn children affects Roe and Casey and the latest legal challenges to new legislative efforts to regulate abortion and how those challenges continue to probe Roe’s limits.

Ms. Mackura is an attorney and the founder and President of the Human Family Research Center, an organization whose mission is “to provide research and advocacy that builds a better understanding of the inalienable value of every human being from the earliest moments of existence and awakens a need to create a human community that understands the interconnectedness, value, and importance of every human being.” Prior to founding the Human Family Research Center in 2009, Ms. Mackura served as the Executive Director and General Counsel of Ohio Right to Life from 1999 to 2007 and has served with numerous non-profit organizations, including stints as Senior Legislative Counsel for Americans United for Life and Executive Director of the Thomas More Pro-Life Law Center. Ms. Mackura is a graduate of the Cleveland-Marshall School of Law.
