Prior to joining the KU Law faculty in 1993, Stephen McAllister clerked for Justices Byron White and Clarence Thomas at the Supreme Court of the United States and Judge Richard Posner at the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He also was in private practice in the Washington, D.C., office of the Los Angeles law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. He served as the first and only Solicitor of the State of Kansas from 1999 to 2003 and was dean of the law school from 2000 to 2005. He currently serves as the Solicitor General of Kansas. Mr. McAllister was chosen by Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt to help prepare the 26-state group challenging the federal health care law for Supreme Court oral arguments.
