John Hilton, a fifth-generation Missourian, works as an attorney at Patton Boggs LLP, in Washington, DC. Hilton graduated from high school in his hometown of Lebanon, Missouri; from Truman State University (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa); and from Harvard Law School. After law school, Hilton worked for one year as a law clerk to Judge Duane Benton on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit in Kansas City, Missouri. Hilton also served as president of the Kansas City Federalist Society lawyers chapter. In December 2007, Hilton was appointed by Governor Blunt to a six-year term on the Board of Governors of his alma mater, Truman State University. With Professor William G. Eckhardt of the UMKC School of Law, Hilton is the co-author of "The Consequences of Judicial Selection: A Review of the Supreme Court of Missouri, 1992-2007," a white paper published by the Federalist Society in August 2007. Hilton lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with his wife, Christie.
