10 years ago, the Supreme Court narrowly held that projected economic growth from a private redevelopment plan qualified as a permissible "public use" under the Takings clause of the Fifth Amendment. Ms. Kelo was forced to give up her home as part so New London, Connecticut could transfer the land to a private developer.

Professor Somin will discuss the 10th Anniversary of the Kelo v. New London case and the swarm of state eminent domain reform laws that followed. Prof. Somin is a constitutional law and property law scholar. He has authored three book, and his next book The Grasping Hand: Kelo v. City of New London and the Limits of Eminent Domain will be released this June.
