  • Professor Joshua D. Hawley, Associate Professor of Law, University of Missouri School of Law

Professor Joshua D. Hawley will be joining us to discuss the impending argument in front of the United States Supreme Court relating to the lawsuit brought by Hobby Lobby. The national arts-and-crafts store challenged the contraceptive mandate in the Affordable Care Act, which requires certain size businesses to include contraceptive coverage in their employee health plans. Professor Hawley is on the legal team that will defend Hobby Lobby's Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals victory before the Supreme Court of the United States in March.

Professor Hawley is currently an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Missouri School of Law in Columbia, MO. Prior to accepting this position, Professor Hawley's impressive experience includes clerkships with Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. of the Supreme Court of the United States and Judge Michael W. McConnell of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, a national appellate practice at a leading Washington, D.C. firm, and as senior counsel to the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty where he litigated ground-breaking First Amendment cases. In addition to his first-hand clerkship experience with the U.S. Supreme Court, Professor Hawley has litigated multiple cases in front of the Court.
