  • Clint Bolick, Author of The Conservative Case for an Activist Judiciary

Clint Bolick is president and general counsel of the Alliance for School Choice, a national advocacy organization supporting private-sector educational options for economically disadvantaged schoolchildren.

Bolick previously co-founded and served as litigation director at the Institute for Justice, where he led the successful national defense of school choice programs, culminating in the landmark 2002 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Zelman v. Simmons-Harris, upholding Cleveland's school voucher program. His litigation efforts in support of school choice earned him American Lawyer's selection as one of the nation's three lawyers of the year in 2002. Bolick also successfully argued the 2005 Supreme Court case striking down regulatory barriers to direct interstate shipment of wine to consumers.

Mr. Bolick earned his J.D. from the University of California at Davis and his undergraduate degree from Drew University. In 2006, Bolick was the recipient of a Bradley Prize, the freedom movement's highest honor. His most recent nonfiction books are Voucher Wars: Waging the Legal Battle Over School Choice (Cato Institute, 2003) and David's Hammer: The Case for an Activist Judiciary (Cato Institute, April 2007). Bolick published his first novel, Nicki's Girl, in 2007.
