The Kansas City Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society presents a luncheon on "Civility and Ethics in the Practice of Law" at the Kansas City Club in downtown Kansas City. The seminar will feature two appealing topics from our distinguished presenters, Judge Duane Benton of the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals on "Civility and the Law: Today's Challenge" and Professor Edward Cantu from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law on "The First Amendment and Attorney Discipline."
Judge Duane Benton currently sits on the bench of the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals where he was appointed by President George W. Bush in 2004. Prior to his appointment, Judge Benton served on the Supreme Court of Missouri, as Director of the Missouri Department of Revenue, practiced law as a private attorney in Jefferson City, MO, and served in the United States Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps. Judge Benton received his B.A. from Northwestern University, J.D. from Yale Law School, M.B.A. from Memphis State University, and L.L.M. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
Professor Edward Cantu is currently a professor of constitutional law and civil procedure at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. Prior to taking this post, Professor Cantu was a Westerfield Fellow at Loyola New Orleans School of Law, worked in private practice at Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan, LLP, in Houston, TX, clerked for Judge Jennifer Elrod of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and for Judge Micaela Alvarez of the Southern District of Texas. Professor Cantu received his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law.
