Mr. Graydon "Dean" Luthey, who leads the gaming and Indian law practice at Gable Gotwals, will discuss the pending Supreme Court case: Michigan v. Bay Mills Indian Community.

The Supreme Court granted certiorari in Bay Mills to address two issues: (1) Whether a federal court has jurisdiction to enjoin activity that violates the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act but takes place outside of Indian lands; and (2) whether tribal sovereign immunity bars a state from suing in federal court to enjoin a tribe from violating IGRA outside of Indian lands.

Mr. Luthey has argued for Tribes before the U.S. Supreme Court, is an elected general member of the International Masters of Gaming Law and the American Law Institute, was selected by the Best Lawyers in America as the Lawyer of the Year in Native American Law in Tulsa in 2012 and in Gaming Law in 2014, is listed in Chambers in band 1 for Indian Law, for several years has been listed in Bet the Company Litigation in Best Lawyers in America and is general counsel for the Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association. Mr. Luthey is a recipient of the 2013 Sovereignty Symposium Hargrave Prize for his paper, "Amending the Model Tribal Gaming Compact."
