On June 28, 2024, the Supreme Court issued a 6-3 decision in City of Grants Pass, Oregon v. Johnson. At issue was whether or not the enforcement of generally applicable laws regulating camping on public property constitutes “cruel and unusual punishment” prohibited by the Eighth Amendment.
