Description

US District Judge Katherine A. Crytzer, who previously served as principal deputy assistant attorney general in the Department of Justice Office of Legal Policy gives an insider’s view and describes the mission and operation of the Office of Legal Policy.

The Department of Justice is one of the most powerful agencies in the United States government.With approximately 115,000 employees including the 93 US Attorneys’ Offices, the Civil Rights Division, Anti-Trust Division, FBI, DEA, ATF, and US Marshals Service to name just a few, its reach is substantial. Within the DOJ, the Office of Legal Policy provides critical support to some of the most impactful operations of the Executive Branch.

Among other things, OLP assists the Attorney General with responsibilities in recommending candidates for federal judgeships, coordinates the judicial nomination and confirmation process with the White House and the Senate, develops and implements the Department's significantpolicy initiatives, reviews and coordinates all regulations promulgated by the Department and allof its components, coordinates with other Executive Branch agencies, and serves as the primary policy advisor to the Attorney General and the Deputy Attorney General.
