Mr. Allison is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina.  He received his B.A. from UNC-Chapel Hill, and a master’s degree in management from Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. Mr. Allison joined BB&T in 1971, rising to become Chairman and CEO in 1989.  He continued in this role until his retirement in 2008. Among other honors, Mr. Allison was awarded the American Banker Lifetime Achievement Award for 2009. In January 2010, he was recognized by the Harvard Business Review as one of the top 100 “best-performing” CEOs in the world over the last decade.
