On February 16, 2016, the Houston Lawyers Chapter of The Federalist Society will host a lunch presentation by Adjunct Professor Jamil Jaffer of George Mason University entitled, "The Iran Nuclear Deal: How We Arrived Here and What Can Be Done Next." Professor Jaffer, the Director of the Homeland and National Security Law Program at George Mason University School of Law, will discuss the legal aspects of and commitments made in the U.S. nuclear deal with Iran and the questions that arose regarding the separation of power between the Executive and Legislative branches. In particular, Professor Jaffer will discuss the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act, which he helped draft as Chief Counsel to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, as well as other steps Congress might take as the deal is implemented. Professor Jaffer will also discuss the legal implications of the deal and its future implementation (or revocation) for the legislative sanctions regime and for America's international obligations.
