As Virginia's Solicitor General, Duncan Getchell serves as lead litigator in the Commonwealth's lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the mandatory insurance coverage provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Prior to becoming Solicitor General, Mr. Getchell headed the Appellate Litigation Practice Group at McGuireWoods LLP. In that capacity, he argued before the U.S. Supreme Court and appeared in every U.S. Court of Appeals, as well as the Supreme Court of Virginia. Mr. Getchell was nominated to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit by President George W. Bush in September 2007.
