Hon. James P. Sullivan is a Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas. Before taking the bench in January 2025, he was General Counsel to Governor Greg Abbott. He previously served as Governor Abbott's Deputy General Counsel, represented the State as an Assistant Solicitor General under then-Attorney General Abbott, and practiced with an international law firm. He clerked for Judge Thomas B. Griffith of the D.C. Circuit. Justice Sullivan received his BA from Rice University and his JD from Harvard Law School. He lives in Austin with his wife, Alithea, and their son.
