Resolved: The Future is Female!

“Nature prefers a female,” an old saying has it, and perhaps that saying is true. Human fetuses initially more resemble females than males, and although males outnumber females at birth, in nearly every society women historically outlive men. The majority of U. S. undergraduate and graduate degrees now go to women, who have also made increasing inroads in professions, especially law, medicine, and government. Meanwhile, the Y chromosome – which has no counterpart to help repair it – is literally shrinking, while worldwide testosterone levels continue to drop. Just as a farmer needs fewer bulls than cows, or roosters than hens, perhaps men are increasingly unnecessary even for human survival.

Is the future female?

Doors open at 5:30 and the gavel drops at 6:00 p.m.
