Presidents Jefferson and Madison Visit the Federalist Society
Please join the Federalist Society as we host Presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison for an evening discussion of the constitutional issues of early American government, including those surrounding the Louisiana Purchase. Jefferson and Madison will be portrayed by actors and scholars Bill Barker and Bryan Austin, respectively, who have extensively studied these presidents and their contemporaries. The evening discussion will begin with Messrs. Barker and Austin portraying Jefferson and Madison from 1803, when Madison served as Jefferson’s Secretary of State and a primary national concern was the constitutionality of the Louisiana Purchase. The evening will conclude with a Question & Answer session in which our presenters will answer questions regarding Jefferson and Madison, the historical and constitutional issues of their day, and the presenters’ work with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
Bill Barker and Bryan Austin are in St. Louis on behalf of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation for events at the Missouri History Museum in conjunction with the museum’s exhibit on the Louisiana Purchase.
