Brantley Starr serves as Deputy Attorney General for Legal Counsel at the Office of the Attorney General of Texas. Starr, who rejoined the attorney general’s office in 2015, oversees Special Litigation, the Opinion Committee, the General Counsel Division, the Public Finance Division, and the Open Records Division. Previously, Starr served as staff attorney to Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman from 2012-15, and practiced commercial and appellate litigation at King & Spalding LLP from 2008-12. He served as an Assistant Solicitor General under Ted Cruz at the Office of the Attorney General from 2006-08, clerked for Justice Don Willett on the Texas Supreme Court in 2005-06, and served as an assistant attorney general in the Open Records Division of the Office of the Attorney General from 2004-05. Starr obtained his JD from the University of Texas School of Law and his BA from Abilene Christian University. He and his wife have three children under the age of 4 and are very tired.
