One controversial tweet led to calls for Ilya Shapiro’s firing from Georgetown Law.  A four-month investigation eventually cleared him on a technicality,  but it declared that if he offended anyone in the future, he’d be subject to scrutiny again. This made Mr. Shapiro feel he could no longer do the job he was hired for, and he publicly resigned in 2022.  In Lawless: The Miseducation of America’s Elites, Shapiro reflects on how the decline of intellectual diversity, academic freedom, and civil discourse in law schools contributes to a climate of intolerance and lawlessness antithetical to the legal profession.
