Since the passage of Dodd-Frank in 2010 by the Obama Administration, the financial industry has been bombarded with thousands of pages of regulations along with the several new government agencies tasked with overseeing the implementation of the act. New regulations came out in 2015. Bankers and banking lawyers alike are still struggling to understand and follow the law. Some politicians are promising to repeal the regulations and even the law itself. Wayne A. Abernathy will address the key issues still in flux.
Mr. Abernathy is the Executive Vice President for Financial Institutions Policy and Regulatory Affairs of the American Bankers Association. He oversees ABA groups that deal with policy development, regulatory and compliance issues, bank supervision and resolution, securities and investment, derivatives policy, and risk management. Mr. Abernathy has also served as Treasury Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions under President George W. Bush, receiving the Alexander Hamilton Award in recognition of his service. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation. Mr. Abernathy also served as Staff Director of the Senate Banking Committee, under Chairman Phil Gramm.
