Covid and Religious Liberty: A Discussion with Eric Rassbach

Los Angeles Lawyers Chapter

The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted state and local authorities to impose unprecedented restrictions on their citizens, leading to a perhaps equally unprecedented wave of lawsuits. While these lawsuits have challenged many aspects of those restrictions, state and local limits on worship services and religious exercise have arisen as a key flashpoint. In this discussion, Eric Rassbach, VP and Senior Counsel at the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, will discuss recent developments in this quickly evolving area of constitutional law, including the Supreme Court’s recent decision in Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn v. Cuomo, and where the legal challenges might go from here.

Speakers:

  • Eric Rassbach, VP and Senior Counsel, Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, co-counsel for synagogue plaintiffs in Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn v. Cuomo
  • Josh McDaniel, Attorney at Horvitz & Levy LLP (Moderator)
