Featuring:

  • Prof. Kenneth M. Rosen, Professor of Law, University of Alabama School of Law

Professor Rosen takes the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence to reflect upon the underappreciated motive of the Founders to seek economic freedom through the Revolution. He explores how their motives are reflected in early American law. Professor Rosen then contemplates how given their motivation by economic freedom, the Founders might critique and reject the current Democratic Socialism movement championed by New York City Mayor Mamdani and others. He utilizes this critique to show how discussion of the Founders can be included in contemporary dialogues to elevate and to find common ground in political discussions today.
