We will be honoring Chief Judge Alex Kozinski of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit as the first recipient of the Los Angeles Federalist Society Public Service Award and the keynote speaker. We will also be giving an award to the (yet to be named) Los Angeles Federalist Society Lawyer of the Year.

In 1985, at the young age of 35, Judge Kozinski was appointed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit by President Ronald Reagan, making him the youngest federal appeals court judge in the country at the time. In 2007, he became the Ninth Circuit's tenth Chief Judge. Over the years, Judge Kozinski has won admirers across the political and legal spectrum who praise his common sense decisions, his libertarian instinct, and his sense of humor. His writings have been featured in publications such as Slate, The New Yorker, The New Republic and National Review.
