On July 6, the Houston Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society will host a lunch presentation by Julie Myers Wood, former Head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.  For thirty years, since the 1986 amnesty deal, inconsistent enforcement of immigration laws coupled with an inefficient and restrictive pathway for legal access to the country have left us with a broken immigration system.  As seen in 2007 and 2013, the politics of immigration have prevented us from comprehensive immigration reform.  The parties seem forever deadlocked and unable to work out their differences on critical issues.  Yet there is bipartisan agreement on many immigration reforms that would significantly improve the system.  Ms. Wood will provide an insider’s perspective on the problems with our immigration system, potential solutions, and whether and how reform is possible.
