On May 21, the Federalist Society Houston Lawyers Chapter will host James Taranto of the Wall Street Journal who will discuss the erosion of due process rights for students at American colleges. Mr. Taranto has reported on how the Obama Administration has threatened to withhold federal funding from schools whose practices for handling sexual misconduct allegations do not comply with Administration guidelines. As a result of this directive, many schools have removed due process protections from administrative disciplinary proceedings, leaving students vulnerable to false charges and unfair procedures. Mr. Taranto will discuss what he has uncovered in his reporting on this issue and his view of what role schools should play in dealing with accusations of student criminal behavior.
