Join Scott Jensen and Rick Esenberg for a discussion of Coyne v. Walker and its implications for Wisconsin schools and the education reform movement.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court in Coyne v. Walker held 2011 Wisconsin Act 21 unconstitutional as applied to the Department of Public Instruction.  The Court’s ruling was a disappointment to some who had hoped the Court would overturn Thompson v. Craney, and in so doing clarify the constitutional balance of power in the field of education policy-making.  Joining the Madison Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society will be Scott Jensen and Rick Esenberg, who will together discuss the law of Coyne and its implications for Wisconsin schools and the education reform movement.

About the Speakers:

Scott Jensen is a Senior Advisor to the American Federation for Children and was Speaker of the Wisconsin Assembly from 1995-2002.    Mr. Jensen, along with Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce, School Choice of Wisconsin, and Jason Fields, submitted an amicus curiae brief on Coyne to the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Rick Esenberg is the founder, President, and General Counsel of the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty and is the author of the above-mentioned amicus brief.
