A Panel Discussion on Federal District Court Vacancies
Cincinnati Lawyers Chapter
401 East 4th Street
Cincinnati , OH 45202
The Constitution grants the President of the United States the authority to nominate individuals to the federal judiciary with the "advice and consent" of the Senate. Traditionally, presidents have consulted senators regarding their nominations to the federal district courts. In Ohio, Senator Rob Portman (R) and Senator Sherrod Brown (D) established a Bipartisan Commission to recommend candidates for federal district court vacancies to the senators, who in turn make recommendations to President Trump. Last year the commission made three recommendations for three vacancies in Ohio's Southern and Northern Districts. A fourth vacancy will soon exist. Members of Senator Portman's staff and a member of the Bipartisan Commission will share their thoughts and insights regarding the process for recommending district court judges.
Speakers:
- Amanda H. Neeley, General Counsel to Senator Rob Portman & Deputy Chief Counsel, Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations of the United States Senate
