Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission
Free Speech & Election Law Practice Group
On January 21, 2010, the Supreme Court announced its decision in Citizens United v. FEC. The Court struck down as inconsistent with the First Amendment a provision of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act regarding independent expenditures by corporations that the FEC had said would forbid the airing of advertisements about a documentary about Hillary Clinton that Citizens United sought to air during the 2008 primary season. This podcast will discuss the decision.
