CLE Instructions for National Conferences

CLE is being offered for in-person attendees who follow the steps below.  We are unable to provide credit for attendees who watch the panels through the livestream or a posted recording.

Step 1: REGISTER for the event.

Step 2: ATTEND IN PERSON.

Step 3: SIGN IN electronically upon arrival using the QR code which is available on the program and fill in your information. This must be done as you arrive, as a digital timestamp is required.

Step 4: SIGN OUT at the end of the day using the same QR code, as a digital timestamp is required. Several states require that attendees sign out.

Step 5: COMPLETE THE ATTENDANCE REPORTING FORM. Links to the attendance reporting form and evaluation form will be emailed within one business day of the event to all attendees who have signed in. The form is also linked on the electronic sign-in sheet.

Attendees who have completed the above steps will receive an email confirmation with their state reporting information and certificate of attendance (COA), where applicable, within two weeks of the event. If you have questions about the CLE process or your status or have not received your confirmation email, please contact us at cle@fedsoc.org.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many hours of CLE credit are available?
Check out the CLE information section on the event page for specific state approvals. Yellow CLE credit badges indicating total approved hours and ethics hours can be found below the banner on the main event page. Yellow CLE badges are also located next to each approved session.

Why does the state’s approved credit differ from what’s listed on the yellow CLE badges?
The yellow CLE badges are based on a clock hour, so a 60-minute panel will be listed as CLE 1.00 hours. Jurisdictions differ in their definition of a CLE credit hour (50 versus 60 minutes) and in how they round their credit hour, which can result in seemingly wide variations in approved credit for the same amount of time.

Can I get CLE credit for watching the livestream or a recording once it’s posted on the website?
No, this event has only been accredited for attorneys who register for the conference and attend in person, though some panels may be offered as On-Demand CLE at a later date.

Why is my state listed on the State Approval Status chart as “Application will be submitted pending sign-in at event?”
In order to save the time and costs associated with routinely applying to every state for a national event, we initially apply to a limited number of states, including the state where the event is being held and other states where we anticipate attendance. Additional states are then applied to as attendees sign in at the event for that state.

Why is Illinois listed on the State Approval Status chart as “Attendees submit applications directly?”
Illinois MCLE’s written materials requirements are beyond the scope of what The Federalist Society can routinely provide for its events. We therefore no longer seek CLE accreditation directly from Illinois, which allows Illinois attorneys to claim CLE credit as long as the event has been approved by any other state with a comparable MCLE accreditation process. Illinois attendees who sign in/out and complete the attendance reporting form will receive specific instructions for claiming their credit directly from Illinois.  The state imposes a $15 fee for the application and initial approval is for general credit only. The state’s professionalism commission will then review the event separately for professionalism credit.
