Alice LaCour is a litigation partner at Hilgers Graben PLLC and the co-host of two legal true crime podcasts: The Prosecutors Podcast and Legal Briefs, which have been downloaded over ten million times and featured on Apple Podcast's top 100 podcasts. Recently, she served as First Assistant and Criminal Chief at the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Middle District of Alabama, where she prosecuted cases spanning from guns and drugs to complex white collar crimes. Alice also served as Counselor to the Attorney General and Senior Advisor and Counselor to Assistant Attorney General of the Civil Division. During these stints at the Justice Department, Alice also served on the confirmation teams to elevate Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court. Alice clerked for the Hon. Keith P. Ellison of the Southern District of Texas and the Hon. Jennifer Walker Elrod of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Alice received her J.D. from Yale Law School, and she graduated summa cum laude from Washington and Lee University with a degree in Economics and a concentration in Poverty and Human Capabilities.
Judge, United States District Court, Northern District of Alabama
Edmund LaCour serves as a district judge on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. Before joining the court, he served as the Solicitor General of Alabama, overseeing the State’s appellate litigation before the federal courts of appeals, Alabama Supreme Court, and United States Supreme Court. In that role, he argued three times before the United States Supreme Court and multiple times before the Eleventh Circuit, Alabama Supreme Court, and federal district courts.
Before joining the Alabama Attorney General’s Office, Judge LaCour was a partner at the DC office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP, where he represented numerous clients before the Supreme Court, courts of appeals, and trial courts. Before joining Kirkland, he practiced at Bancroft PLLC in Washington, DC, and Baker Botts LLP in Houston, Texas.
Judge LaCour clerked for The Honorable William H. Pryor Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Judge LaCour earned his Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from Birmingham-Southern College, his M. Phil. from Trinity College Dublin, and his juris doctorate from Yale Law School.

Abby joined FIRE after her tenure at the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, where she litigated First Amendment student group cases from coast to coast. She also worked at a trial litigation boutique in southern California. Abby has filed briefs on the First Amendment in state and federal court at the trial and appellate court levels, including before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Abby received her B.S. in economics and her B.A. in Chinese language and literature from the University of Pittsburgh, where she graduated summa cum laude. During college, she also spent a year at Tsinghua University as a Boren Fellow. She later received her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School, where she won the 2018 Hinton Moot Court Competition. After law school, Abby clerked for the Honorable Michael B. Brennan on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is admitted to practice in New York and California, as well as several federal appellate courts and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Abby lives outside Dallas, Texas, with her husband and family. They enjoy reading together, volunteering with their local church, and continuing to fix their leaky pool.
