United States Supreme Court 2013 Review and 2014 Preview

Columbus Lawyers Chapter

Speaker:

  • Eric Murphy, Ohio State Solicitor

Speaker:

  • Eric Murphy, Ohio State Solicitor

During its 2013 term, the Supreme Court of the United States issued decisions on Michigan’s race-neutral university admissions, the Religious Freedoms Restoration Act’s limits on the HHS contraception mandate, the scope of the President’s recess appointment power, and the First Amendment’s limits on requiring non-union home health care workers to pay union dues. Looking ahead, the Supreme Court’s October 2014 term already includes cases addressing “true threats”, short barreled shotguns, the criminality of destroying illegally caught fish, and the constitutionality of packing voters into a majority-minority district. As our speaker, we are honored to have our immediate past president and Ohio State Solicitor Eric Murphy recap the Court’s recent decisions and discuss what to expect in the upcoming term.

The cost is $20.00 ($15.00 for those who join the Columbus Lawyers Chapter for the 2014-2015 program year and $5 for students).
