The Federalist Society of Connecticut, in conjunction with the Connecticut American Civil Liberties Union will host the Heritage Foundation’s Hans von Spakovsky and the ACLU's Dennis Parker at the Milton and Ethel Sorokin Symposium to discuss the First Amendment in the wake of policing and race relations during 2014.

Von Spakovsky is the manager of the Heritage Foundation’s Election Law Reform Initiative and a senior legal fellow in the Foundation’s Edwin Meese III Center for Legal and Judicial Studies.  His background includes time with the Federal Election Commission and the Justice Department, where he served as counsel to the assistant attorney general for civil rights.
 
Parker is director of the ACLU Racial Justice Program, leading its efforts in combating discrimination and other issues that have a disproportionate impact on communities of color. Parker oversees work to combat the “school-to-prison” pipeline, the profiling of airline passengers subjected to searches and wrongfully placed on watch lists and the racial bias in the criminal justice system.
